Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
